I hear your pain, Mumat and have to agree, if youv'e never even so much as looked at a TCG before then there's a AWFUL lot to take in.
But, like the old Tusken saying goes, "How do you eat a bantha? One bite at a time..."
Have you tried playing through the tutorials? Just taking it slow?
At it's very simplest, it's a numbers game. You draw a card and, in an offense / attack turn it's the damage value (number by the little lightsaber) that matters. The TOTAL defence of your enemy must be below your total attack (so if you are playing multiple cards at a mission, it's all of them if it's just one or avatar v avatar, then it's just the one) for you to damage the other guy.
If you just match him you'll do one point damage and take one point. Have a higher DAM than his DEF and he'll take two points. His DEF higher than your DAM? Well, you just lost that hand and will take two point of damage back.
You will get the chance to 'attempt a quest' and, at that point, it's the little 'power' number on your abilities that matter. You'll take one of your abiities and 'spend' it at the quest. If you have a high enough power you'll take the quest and win a little quadrant to go in the middle of the board. If not enough then it's just added to a tally and you can attempt it again in a later turn, hopefully taking it this time.
When you win a complete scenario you may get a loot card (in the scanarios it's fixed as to what you'll get , in tournaments it's random, afaics). You may also find loot cards in the packs of (virtual) cards that you can buy from Station Store. Those are where the speeders etc are coming from, mostly, at the moment.
Once you win a loot card you can eother trade it in the TCG (as with any other tradeable card) or you can redeem it at which point it'll become available in the /cliam menu of your SWG account. Most redeemed items are no trade, if you want to trade it, trade it in the TCG.
You may also loot packs of cards in SWG itself. These can be sold in game, or allocated to your TCG account and used as normal.
Heck, I've probably just made things even MORE confused for you, lol, but, good intentions and all?
TBH, it's far easier to sit somebody down with a game and show them how it works but, atm, I don't feel confident enough to be able to do it with the TCG. Maybe somebody else in the guild could offer a hand? *stronghint ON* ;)
Stick with it, Mumat.
It's fun once you figure it out.
The whole thing didn't make a lick of sense until I did tutorial number 10. They really need to revamp either the order of those tutorials or the entire set of 'em. I had the same problem when trying to figure out LoN.
I'd shake your hand, but I still have the ticket collector at the starport targeted.
Has anyone actually looted a pack in game yet?
Hesi on Valcyn
I havent found any loot decks yet.
But as for learning the game. I read that its very much like Legends of Norath. So I was thinking there are probably several training guides for that game.
Also if you see me on-line playing send me a /tell and I will be more than happy to help you out.

oops, my bad, but now you mention it; and don't quote me; but istr a dev saying that in game drops haven't been implemented 'yet'. Which is pretty much as it was with LoN at EQII. Get it working then enhance.
never figured out LON
I've spent about 1hr - 2hrs playing the TCG and I sort of got it. I somehow managed to win in the tutorial simulation game, but I'm just not that excited by it. I'm still confused about what is happening sometimes when I'm playing, so I dunno.. maybe I'll get into it eventually, but for now, I prefer just hanging out in the swg game itself!

I've played a couple of hand of against the computer and I won one by accident... I'm just clueless about what the point is and what I'm supposed to do, and when. I tried a couple of the tutorials, and they didn't help much, so I didn't get as far as the 10th one... will have to try that one.
Part 1
To answere your question of, "What is the point?". The object is to defeat your opponent by either achieving 4 quests before they do or by causing damage to the other person to the point of zero. Think "Heath meter" or "hit points". Example you can have 9 health and your opponent can have 12. So keep an eye on how much damage you (Avatar) take.
With beginning players its easier to try and attack your opponents avitar.
Technique - At the beginning when it asks if you want to loose a point to re-draw your cards. Take a look at your cards and determine if you have at least two abilities and two units. Thats the bare min. If you dont have these, the game play will be much harder for you. Spend the one point of damage and redraw the cards.
First thing to do is play an ability. Then bring out your units but dont fight unless you place a unit at a location (quest) where there are units there already. If you do fight at a quest location where there are no opponents units, you will attach there avitar. Save that move for a little later when you can build units.
