Yivvits: I created a thread in the 'Members Lounge' where people can post their in-game contact info for games. (that way only registered members can view it) http://yivvitsandmrbubble.com/forums/p/7994/30500.aspx

Woot!
Thanks Yiv :)
Meanwhile, in other news, I've decided to sub to STO for a month, see how it goes after launch. Am actually enjoying the space combat (though it's not a patch on JtL imho) and the ground missions are a refreshing change (but I'd much rather be able to do loads of them and less prancing about in space).
Good news!! Yah kin dance in STO! It's emote based but it's do-able :)
Bad news.... (nah, not really) but Trek fans are just sooooo sensitive. Warping into a zone and seeing a big moon I just HAD to say "That's no moon..", which just got some of the locals upset cos "that's the wrong fiction noob!" (That from a player with a manga comic character name, hah)
Good news!! SO much comedy possibilites from a STO / SWG crossover. An away mission for an STO crew who beam down to Tatooine. TIE fighter rookie pilots warp into deep space... Camp shiny droid meets Klingons...
*giggles*

There's no formal2? Oh crap what's Mr B gonna do during quite moments in Quark's Bar? :) Maybe he should take up Stand-up Comedy! No wait, we'd need Grabs for that ;)
Oh c'mon, you know there's easily as many Star Wars fans who'd get upset if you started doing that the flip-way. They aren't in SWG though, because all the noobs are too rude to talk to you and everyone else is so used to silly jokes they just laugh you up :)

If C3PO mets a bunch of Klingons they'd probably open him with a tin opener to see if there was anything to eat inside ;) Meanwhile Picard will be in a lightsaber duel with Darth Maul, Riker will be running off with Princess Leia (well he *is* slightly scruffy-looking) and R2D2 and Data will be lost in the desert trying to find Ambassador Spock. 7 of 9 will get captured by Vader but break her *own* way out of prison on the Deathstar to find him sittong around in the bar with a load of Borg swapping stories and comparing mods. You're right this has a lot of traction :D

Hmm. My first impressios is confusion as to how they don't have a 10 or 14 day free trial. Yes, I have looked all over their site, especially at their subscription page. There was nothing concerning a free trial.
And if this topic was already discussed, too bad. I didn't want to take the time to read two pages of posts. Lol.
"Master Granedier" Republic Commando multiplayer quote.
"I reject your reality and substitute my own" quote from Mythbusters.

Only a Star Wars fan would confuse Anchorage with Anchorhead.
As R. Lee Ermey would say: OOH RAA!

Have been treating the beta period, which has been 'open' for the past two weeks or thereabouts, as a free trial. Yeah there were server outages and bugs but hey, free.. ;)
"no free trial" isn't that unusual at game launch. One way of looking at it, they've literally got folk queued up waiting to play at launch on Friday, why bother with a free peek?
Woot! Okay, that 'end of beta' Borg invasion was a blast. Well, lots and lots and lots of blasts.
Did see a couple of your names lit up in my friends list but with that much traffic flying about I couldn't actually *find* you, lol.
Roll on Friday, eh?
Ok, full disclosure moment:Since Tutone was inside an instance when the Borg arrived (timed-out earlier, invasion began, logged back in), the experience began on a bit of an off note. Not one who finds (either side of) unstoppable "zurging" a form of entertainment, me.
There was, quite literally, no way to make ground on them.
Not being a Fleet member, no back up was coming and most other folks in the gamespace were... uhm... incohesive as a fighting team?heh... Everyone trying to warp out or find a safe spot (and my popping in off of a timeout) did not help this, admittedly.
Leaving to sector space caused the USS Dust to materialize on top of (more like inside) a Cube that was camping the system and so physically huge as to make impulse engines a useless endeavor... which brings up the subject: Is there an option to "force" the confirmation/acceptance of Random Encounters on the sector map? Sometimes there *IS* a clicky, sometimes you're just in the soup. /ponder
But I digress:This was all in the first 10min or so. The frustration was off the scale & mounting...Due largely to a total lack of perspective, btw. Everyone everywhere was having the same fight... but you wouldn't know it from the chat. /snicker
So there it was:Choice A - Useless tactical effort *in* the... what was it?... the Menda System?Choice B - Useless tactical effort *just outside* the Menda System.A false choice, if ever there was one.
Then... all at once... it occurred to me to drop the Transwarp button onto the hotbar, Zoom-Zip! Hello, Starbase One! /whew!What's this? Not one living soul in Sol? <Get it!?!?>Better check the station.<Beam Sound>Holy!!
Folks there were in a state we'll refer to as "Chaos"......but there were safe places to stand and fight, as opposed to the "in range=explode" model in use, up to that point. /blush
General disarray melted into a direct, cohesive purpose a few scant minutes later when, to my astonishment, a Gaggle of Klingon PC's beamed in and started making PvP hay of any Feds too tightly focused on the Borg.
The cry went up: "Alert, Alert: Klingons inside Earth Station!" and...BAM! A Three-way Free-for-All... or... what we'll refer to as "EPIC CHAOS!"...and also Big Big Fun!
Thanks to all those, K&F alike, who helped "make it so."See you Friday!
Tutone,a Wookiee...still yet.
P.S. Note to self: Exploration Badges FTW!

I barley even got much into space myself, but I think this is going to have a problem that a lot of other Star Trek games have.
1. pretty basic gameplay-fun at first but after ahwhile well, eh?
2. did they do like in every other Star Trek game? 50 people in art and 3 in coding?
This game didn't feel that much Star Trek. It's where games think that they nee to spread out toa wier audience, and, well in the end it just doesn't work out good for either fans or semi-fans.
I think it has A LOT of potentail, but that is it. When they release an expansion for it either YaMB or someone shoul call in an give a review, but I think that it will just take them some time to get thing working, so until then I hope that people enjoy it, Other than that
WHEN DOES THE STARGATE MMO COME OUT?

Hey Guys I'm glad you all posted these critiques of the game. I'm really excited to try it out! I grew up with Star Trek and all its variations! I'm just so glad they actually made an mmo out of it. I don't really care too much about all the technical bits, I'm just a simple gamer, but I have something to look forward to thanks to you folks! Great comments BTW! looking forward to seeing some of you in game if you continue on! Most likely my name will be Nedi, Moretta, or Hypatia or some variant of those names....if someone hasn't already taken them.
It's All Good!
So, did anyone keep playing after BETA and/or the first month? I am, and enjoying it. Fell in with a good fleet and (still) working on making Rear Admiral :)
I've desided to give it the first month atleast right now, though I am already a Admiral 5 on there now and thats from jsut playing it casual like to lol oh well I got my nice ship now thats good.

StripeyStormWaltz:So, did anyone keep playing after BETA and/or the first month? I am, and enjoying it. Fell in with a good fleet and (still) working on making Rear Admiral :)
I sprung for the lifetime during beta. I've been playing a couple hours a week and as I tend to meander in MMO's I'm only at LT Commander 3... which I'm very happy with. I know that there will always be diehards in MMO's that'll grind max in a week or two but it's just a bit to easy in STO right now. I'm sure that they'll rebalance the game as some point... which should get the forums flaming (again)
Yeh I have to admit, the fact I'm up to Rear Admiral 1 in only a month means it's too easy by far ;) I'm a casual player and although I have been playing more than I usually would I seem to have gotten there faster than any other MMO.
I think part of it is 'Defend xxxx Sector Block' missions turn out 1/4 of a level of XP on average. I know a lot of guys in our fleet got to RA 5 by grinding those and didn't bother with the story which, to me, is a bit against the principle of the game. I guess not everyone is in it for the story but still you should have to do the main mission thread at least. It means at various stages I've had Rear admirals helping with story missions that they haven't done yet but I have. Useful but ultimately I feel a bit sorry for those that missed all the content, but I suppose they are catching up now :P
