Our friend Tim needs everyone's thoughts and prayers!
The following message came to Yivvits and I from a friend of Tim's in touch with his family:
"At Tim's request I am posting this. At this time Tim is in very dire straights I apologize in advance if this is the first you have heard of this. This morning Tim's liver failed and shortly after his kidneys shut down as well. He is currently being evaulated for transplant options however by tomorrow morning he will likely no longer be conscious. Our thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family. I will post an update as things devlop."
Yivvits and I will post updates as we receive them.
Latest News is at the top now
Sunday afternoon
2/4/2010, Morning
Tim continues to show progress. He is more alert today and has responded to various commands by the doctors and nurses to move his fingers, toes, and blink his eyes and is lifting his head off the pillow. His liver numbers are still improving--his INR (clotting) is now in the normal range. The kidney doctors were just by but are leaving him on the continuous dialysis for the time being since it is more gentle on the body than doing it in a scheduled but intermittent manner. His blood pressure has been elevated this morning and Susan, his nurse, just gave him medication for that. Some of the increase could be linked to his increased awareness of his surroundings and frustration with the breathing tube. They will remove the tube as soon as they feel he is strong enough to effectively breath/cough on his own.
Tim still has a steep path ahead, but with your prayers and support, I know he can make it.Brenda
*** UPDATE Thursday (Wednesday Evening's update from his mom):
I'm back at Tim's apartment. When I arrived at the hospital this morning, he appeared to move his eyes and was moving his head and arms a little. The nurse even put the restraints back on his arms so he wouldn't pull out any tubes. He had been off the sedative for 24 hours and doing OK. In the late morning, the respiratory therapist asked for my permission to hook up another respirator to compare the performance of the one they'd used in the past to the new version he's been using. I never heard what they learned but the nurses and RT's seem to like the new one. This afternoon he had the sigmoidostomy. The doctor who did the procedure and talked to me afterward said they had the best possible outcome. The bleeding appeared to come from an ulcer that had formed, probably caused by one of the tubes they had inserted earlier. They did whatever (I have forgotten the term she used) and were glad they could rule out the Crohn's and avoid having to do the endoscopy. When I returned to the room after the procedure, he was pretty unresponsive due to the heavy duty meds they'd given him in preparation for the procedure.
So that's the update for now. Hope we both have a quiet night. I am so very pleased with the nurses, doctors, and others caring for him. I could not ask for more compassionate professionals for Tim and me to be working with.
Thanks to everyone for your continued prayers.Brenda

Today I am at the hospital with my sister, Deb, and my niece, Julie. They have been here since Saturday, giving me a chance to go back to Nora Springs briefly over the weekend to take care of things back at home. We are waiting for the doctors to make their morning rounds to get the newest update.
The nurses change over at 7:00 pm and 7:00 am each day. Last night his nurse was Amy. Tim had been taken off of his sedation so they could monitor his reactions. Amy decided to put him back on the sedation to make him more comfortable.
His nurse this morning, Heide, didn't mention any changes when we stopped first thing this morning. Once rounds are completed this morning I will try to get a better update. Yesterday they switched his central line from his groin to his neck and put boots on Tim to make sure his calf muscles don't get stiff from laying in the bed.
Thank you to everyone who is praying for Tim and who have expressed their thoughts on his Facebook page. Hopefully this will serve as an easier way to update everyone on Tim's condition!
Brenda
*** UPDATE Monday Morning (2/1/10)
from Tim's Facebook
Hi all of Tim's friends. I am Tim's cousin. Brenda (his mom) created a CarePages website (similar to CaringBridge) for him, and this is how she'll keep everyone updated. Here is the link. You will need to create an account with your email as the username and a password. It can be whatever you want it to be, and it's fr...ee. Thank you to everyone for all of your support! *** UPDATE Saturday Evening
from Tim's Facebook page
"They did another CT scan and EEG this morning and his mom is waiting to hear back the results before going home tonight to repack and head back to Madison. Thank you to all of the friends who cleaned Tim's apartment! Brenda will be staying there soon, so I'm sure she really appreciates it. He is still on dialysis for his kidneys, but it isn't as effective as they would like it to be. His liver toxin levels continue to improve slowly, so I think the hope is that he won't need a transplant, but he is still at the top of the list. After his blood transfusion, his blood is beginning to clot, so surgery may be possible if needed. It sounds like they are starting to pull back on some of the meds, but he is still unconscious. I heard Boone, Travis, and Kristina are there now, and Ham is on his way. Keep the support coming!"
*** UPDATE Friday Afternoon/Eening
"I spoke with his aunt this afternoon and there is very good news. Tim has leveled off and his amonia levels dropped by half! The docs have said he has youth on his side and his liver may be regenerating. He is still not awake and is still in very dire straights however things are looking more positive now and he may not even need a transplant. She is also requesting a deli ticket system for after he is healed on who gets to beat him first."
*** UPDATE Friday Morning
from a friend of Tim talking to his mother
"Tim update. I talked with Tim’s mom today at around noon. At this time they are seeing slight improvement in Tim’s liver numbers. They are no longer medically sedating him however he is still unconscious. A liver became available this morning but due to his improved condition the transplant team passed on it. So now we... in waiting stage to see if he may continue to improve on his own or if the next liver will be transplanted. As you can imagine this has been very hard on his mother and been quite the emotional rollercoaster."
*** UPDATE Thurs Evening from Tim's Facebook
From Calvin -At the hospital - just received word he was approved for the transplant list and is at the top
"Talked with Tim's mother today. Good news is that his brain did not swell much and odds of brain damage is low. He is still sedated and odds are will be for some time. He has still not been approved for a liver transplant however the family was informed that if the commity does move forward that he will be at the top of the list. This is good news all around his liver numbers are stable but he is still not producing urine even with the dialisys. At this point it is more wait and see."
*** UPDATE Thursday morning from Tim's facebook:
Update from CalvinI checked in on Tim awhile ago, he had a rough night. He became really confused, and was hallucinating. He pulled out his central line so they needed to sedate and intubate him. The nursing staff said that he did have his phone for part of the night and was txt'ing people. They wanted me to stres...s to anyone that received a txt from him that he was hearing things and really out of it so the txt you got might not have made sense or really been from normal Tim. They are putting his case together for a transplant comitee today to see if he will be put on a list. Overall... he's pretty sick. Calvin
Oh my... My thoughts will be with Tim and his family.
Hang in there Tim.
That's terrible news. The very best of luck, Tim. It's hard to even imagine what you and your family is going through. I'm sure we're all hoping the doctors do their magic and you're back to full health quickly and as easily as possible, given the circumstances.
God bless and keep you, my prayer are with you and your family

Me and my mom both wish Tim the best of luck. All of us who are in game should host some kind of get well event or something. I'm sure it'd mean a lot.
Be a Corellian and ignore all the odds Tim! You'll pull through!
