Here you go: http://pc.ign.com/articles/922/922115p1.html

I'd shake your hand, but I still have the ticket collector at the starport targeted.

P.S. Don't start new threads for this announcement. We don't need 5. LOL

There's a website you can sign up for newsletter: http://www.swtor.com/

Some good, some bad from http://www.massively.com/2008/10/21/massively-and-joystiq-liveblog-the-star-wars-bioware-announcem/

"Dobson says they've spent a lot of time focusing on making the player characters very iconic -- something people would want to play as. BioWare doesn't want this to be a game that only runs on the top 5% of machines."

"Wow! The visual style looks like vibrant, hand-painted art. They've shown Coruscant, as well as some various worlds -- plains, lava, deserts ... all with lots of lightsaber duels, 'natch."

"When asked what TOR means for the future of Star Wars Galaxies, LucasArts steps in and says, "We're only talking about The Old Republic today." Point taken."

So......I'm suprised no one said Star Warsy, though they came close. Also claims that people can be like chars from the movies (they mention Luke and Han). Here's hoping they actually make it possible to be Han and have fun, or a Mandalorian, etc.

Some of the screenshots (those w/o jedi) look intriguing: http://www.massively.com/photos/star-wars-the-old-republic-1/1111061/

We'll see. Will let you know if/when I'm able to check out the community site.

*EDIT* Looks like IGN will continue to update stuff throughout the week. Didn't see a similar notice at massively but I could have missed it.

Make a little mess? Don’t know what to do? Put it on your feet now, MopShoe!

Only a wookie would kiss a droid for Christmas.

He looks down and sees corn, "That doesn't seem possible."

And when I say ladies, I'm talking about ALL YOU BOYS OUT THERE....

Looks like the Official Forums are already filled with SWG'ers that are delusional that KOTORO is going to be everything they want and nothing they don't. For instance, people who think there's actually a chance in Hades that KOTORO could have Jedi/Sith be an unlockable class and not a starting class. Ugh. Signal to noise ratio there looks like it'll be pretty low for quite awhile. Hrm.

Lets face it:

1) It's Star Wars, we love Star Wars.  I buy Star Wars happy meals for goodness sakes.  I'm gonna buy it.

2) Bioware tends to make quality stuff.

3) It won't be sandbox MMO.  That ship has sailed in the industry.

4) ITS STAR WARS!

:)

I love when the EA guy is talking about the team up " they had a lot of experience playing MMOs"  Playing MMOs really not developing them or designing them just playing them if that is the case how about giving me a job I have had lots of experience playing MMOs.

One good thing is seeing the artwork behind the guys is a droid standing by the side of that sith looking dude can we dare dream droids are playable race in this one.

Takes place 300 years after KOTOR 1 and 2 so 3,600 years before the movies.

More to come as more is reviled

You have nothing to worry about in regards to the devs. That is just PR speak. Actually, there are a number of original SWG devs on the team including two of the first producers of the game.

I'd shake your hand, but I still have the ticket collector at the starport targeted.

thats good the game looks awsome just hope they shrink the lightsabers and  guns a bit very odd to have a weapon in your hand that is 5 times bigger than it lol.

GIANT GUNS AND LIGHTSABERS?:   TEH BADZORZ

That just looks dumb, in my opinion, they're trying to appeal to those who like the realistic graphics of modern games, and those who like the cartoony graphics of WoW... Bad combination.

P.S. I also liked the WoW advertising in between flipping through the pictures.

Zurthas, I have to agree with you completely. It looks pretty good, but, in the first screenshot, I saw the butt-ugly lightsabers and went "NO WAY! I'm not playin' THAT!" I wnt on the read the article, and I actually became a bit more impressed with it, except, the whole part about the main pourpose of the game is to make you be a hero...you know...

...if everyone's a hero, then baisically there ARE no heros...when I see Star Wars, I see all the people in the barckground, and the normal Rebel Troopers and Stormies, or the Clones and Droids, not just a bagillion Jedi running around and Blasting everything with lightning...sure, theres a few characters like that, but not everyone.

/shrug Just my two cents...

THIS END UP /\

"Now there are two of them..."

A few thoughts (in no particular order of significance) that crossed the mind while watching.

10cr says when a college-educated, gainfully-employed Game-God brags about the absolutely massive, near-unimaginable depths of upcoming "content" ...
...they end up undone by youthfull and/or unemployed diligence inside a fortnight.
/wave  Republic Credits will do fine.

Liked the idea of un-hitching Factions from Alignments.
Now tell us about Crafting, Housing, Templates, Instances and Space, please. Angel

Dropping the word "Knights" from the title and using the term "non-Jedi" in a sentence increases one's hopes of playing a simple wookiee trying to make his way in the universe.

The gentleman's "choice=consequence" rap is interesting. More so if, for example, we knew NOTHING was repeatable...

Did someone use the term "re-roll" in there? What does it mean, over at BioWare? /pshrug
The choices would appear to be: "Burn your toon completely, name & all"
-or- the old system of gaining and losing individual skills.
-or- what we now call a "respec"... Agreed?
Anyone feel strongly about which?

Uhm... Companion Characters? /sigh  Is this the future (or the past?) of ye' olde SWG "Beast Wars" then?
Call it a "squad" or a "compainion" or a "pet" if you'd rather, but before any of you think of answering... Know this: Ol' Tutone knows nothing of KOTOR et al. Nothing. ...and it's a cultivated position. This will be all-new, if you will.

"Oh My God... That's Huge!... F10!" should get on the ringtone list, eheheh.

And lastly: "Revealed" doesn't seem to mean what it used to mean.
It feels as though we've been wrenched out of the deep, dark mystery-shrouded area enveloping the doings of BioWare, Austin and lifted up into...
...<ahem> a slightly more shallow, slightly less dark area quite near but not actually within the mystery-shrouded doings of BioWare, Austin.

Just me, then? Big Smile

This is not a particularly insightful post...
This is just Tutone's TuCents.

PS. I'm open-minded on this issue... Indifferent but not so you can hear the ocean in my ears. M'Kay?

I know this is way early I mean it was just "officially" announced but the fact that most the screen shots are of Jedi doing there little jedi things does worry me.

Also how fitting that YAMB hit 100 when I new Star Wars MMO is coming out, will you guys be doing much covering of the new game or just have that virgin Brent come on from time to time with updates.

don't change the name of the podcast to include the new game because then it would be Star Wars Galaxy and The Old Republic with Yivvits and Mr Bubble that is quite the mouth full SWGATORWYAMB is still to long

Yivvits:

Uhm... you were saying?  ;)

Lol.

Yivvits and I are always talking about tweaking stuff, esp after ep 100, so yeah, this might point us more towards a diff name. Hmmmmm!

Lol... Hmm, lets see...no day one Jedi in game called "Knights Of The Old Republic"... I think they've smoked way too may death sticks.

My prediction is that the "glowing optimism" will last about four to eight weeks after launch, if that, before the bulk complaining starts.  First player suggestions for "improvements" will start flooding the forums, then bitching about balancing, then accusations on not listening to the community, then Jester gets banned and starts a whole new "campaign"... Same old, same old.

So ya, I'm sure we're going to be hearing how KOTORO is the second coming until at least launch + eight weeks, and then a couple months of "well, it's still better then SWG", before the hard core's finally quietly admit that Ya, they're two very different games with their own strengths and weaknesses.
